Billy Tillerson’s death in Outer Range season 2 explained

Billy Tillerson appeared to die from Royal’s shot, but he survived, only to meet his maker in different circumstances.

Royal left Billy to die in the accident, but he is found and taken to the hospital for emergency surgery.

He barely survives and his family sits by his side during his recovery. Once he regains consciousness, he returns home where Wayne orders Luke to care for him.

Luke feels overlooked by his father because of the extra care he gives Billy, and he refuses to care for his brother.

Billy had stashed away some of the minerals in a toy car by his father’s bedside and he reaches for it when no one is at home, falling off the bed in the process.

Sibling rivalry

Wayne returns home and finds Billy struggling on the floor and reaching for the minerals. He feeds Billy and then takes some himself so they both start hallucinating.

While Billy is recovering, Luke meets with Autumn and talks about the visions he saw after touching the mineral.

He is taken by her the same way Billy is, and he rubs that in Billy’s face. He says that in his visions, he is by Autumn’s side, not Billy.

Billy gets better day by day, but Luke steals his stash of minerals and gives it to Autumn.
