Bich Dang is a powerful Vietnamese woman who owns a restaurant. Apart from her legitimate business, she is also involved in illegal activities.
Despite public awareness of her unlawful dealings, she does not suffer consequences, as she bribes the police.
Bich Dang has been working with Tytus Broz, a rich man with a squeaky-clean reputation. It is through him that she involves his employees in her drug business.
She imports drugs from Vietnam and hires ex-convicts and criminals working at Broz’s factory to distribute her product. Lyle also works for Bich Dang, which gets him killed.
Eli meets Bich Dang
When Eli meets Bich Dang for the first time, she is charmed by his loyalty. She comes to know that Eli did not report her son Darren’s activities at school.
Bich Dang, impressed with Eli, asks him to meet her again, as she wants to offer him a job.
As Bich Dang is also a parent who wants the best for her son, she can understand Lyle’s actions.
She makes Eli see that Lyle’s actions are driven by his love for his family, which helps Eli forgive Lyle.
Bich Dang takes pride in the product that she supplies, so when Lyle ruins her reputation by selling adulterated drugs in her name, she is furious.
When Ivan Kroll kills Lyle, Eli goes to meet Bich Dang to ask for help. He wishes to get in touch with Kroll, but Bich Dang refuses.
She is aware that she should be cautious of dangerous men like Broz and Kroll, which is why she refuses to introduce Eli to Kroll.
Bich Dang’s death
A stroke weakens Bich Dang’s body to the extent that she can hardly walk, so she is forced to retire.
Darren has to take over the business, which does not sit well with Bich Dang. With time, she loses all the power that she once had.
Furthermore, Darren goes to prison for murder, and Bich Dang has to move to a nursing home.
Despite her condition, Bich Dang is a threat to Tytus Broz. As they used to work together, Bich Dang knows about Broz’s research more than he would prefer.
When Caitlyn Spies visits her to question her about Lyle’s murder, Bich Dang refuses to answer her questions, but she does tell her that her life is in danger.
Soon after, Ivan Kroll murders her, but Bich Dang had expected that. She had left behind information about cash movements from Broz’s bank account for Caitlyn.
These documents prove to be Broz’s undoing, as they help Caitlyn and Eli discover the connection between Broz and Bich Dang.
