Ben from the Umbrella Academy died when they went on a mission but his soul stayed behind until eventually passing on.
The Ben of the Sparrow Academy is the only one who survives but the others consider him their sibling, even though he doesn’t want anything to do with them.
When Diego finds a folder written in Moldovan about “the Jennifer Incident”, it rings alarm bells as it is dated the same day as Ben’s death.
He takes it back to the others at Reginald Hargreeves place and Five points out something very peculiar.
Everyone who went on that mission cannot remember exactly how Ben died and repeats the same rehearsed lines about it being a tragic accident.
The truth comes out
They all realize that their Reginald must have wiped their memories of the mission, and this Reginald agrees with them.
He admits that he has a machine to find lost memories inside a person’s brain so Luther, Diego, and Allison agree to get into it.
Viktor asks to be connected because he also wants to know what happened back then.
The memory shows Reginald calling everyone for a mission, and Ben initially doesn’t want to go.
Luther calls their father, who insists that Ben go along. He briefs them on a container containing a dangerous weapon in a Moldovan warehouse.
They are meant to destroy the container and Reginald stresses that under no circumstances should they open it.
When they get there, Ben hears a knocking from inside and opens the container to find Jennifer.
He pulls her out despite Luther’s protestations because he doesn’t want to kill an innocent girl.
Reginald shows up and shoots Ben and Jennifer in the head, claiming that he saved all of their lives.
Bringing on the apocalypse
Viktor uses his powers on Reginald, blaming him for Ben’s death but Abigail explains that all of this is her fault.
When she created the Marigold, another substance called Durango was created and when both came in contact, it formed the cleanse.
The cleanse is a world-ending entity and Reginald wanted to avoid that so he killed Ben and Jennifer before the reaction could be completed.
However, in this timeline, they were doomed to repeat it as Ben and Jennifer came into contact once again.
