Baek Hoon-ah: The Good Bad Mother character explained

In The Good Bad Mother, Baek Hoon-ah is Young-soon’s new neighbor, who starts disliking her the moment they meet and then tries his best to get her farm closed. Baek Hyun-jin plays Baek Hoon-ah.

While returning from Seoul after collecting Kang-ho’s belongings, Young-soon gets into a car accident with a man. This man is none other than Baek Hoon-ah, a music composer who is infamous for plagiarizing songs.

Due to that, his songs have been taken off the market, and he is even sued for his latest song, which is very similar to another singer’s song. At a time like this, Hoon-ah decides to move to Jou-ri.

Hoon-ah lived in Jou-ri before he moved to Seoul when he was still in school. He was known as the “Nightingale of Jou-ri” by the villagers, who still remember him.

The troublesome neighbor

When Hoon-ah gets into an accident with Young-soon, he is rude to her and demands that she pay an exorbitant amount. His sexist comments and money-grubbing attitude makes Young-soon angry, and she snaps back.

She decides to call the police to settle the matter, but Hoon-ah stops her. The accident was not entirely Young-soon’s fault, as Hoon-ah did not maintain the safe distance between their cars that drivers are supposed to maintain.

Soon after, while looking for the twins’ ball, Kang-ho ends up going to Hoon-ah’s house but is not treated well by Hoon-ah. Young-soon and Hoon-ah then find out that they are neighbors when Hoon-ah goes to confront Young-soon about the stench of pigs.

He refuses to understand anything that he says, and it soon becomes clear that he thinks too highly of himself. When he continues being rude to Young-soon, she refuses to discuss the matter further and asks him to sue her if he has a problem.

Hoon-ah ends up going to the authorities to complain, and when he does not get his way, he threatens the civil servant. When even that does not work, he starts rolling on the floor like a child and throws a tantrum.

When the authorities contact Young-soon, she tries to extend the olive branch and keeps food outside his house. However, Hoon-ah wrecks his expensive car once again when he tries to avoid hitting Kang-ho and the twins, who were chasing Kang-ho’s piglet in the middle of the road.

On top of this, he and his car get sprayed with disinfectant when he angrily goes to Young-soon’s farm. He then goes to Young-soon’s house to fight her. Young-soon offers to compensate him, but he asks for a huge amount again.

The argument escalates, and when he manhandles Young-soon, Kang-ho attacks him, which lands them at the police station. The police do not take action against Kang-ho and Young-soon because this time also, Hoon-ah did not follow the rules while driving his car.

When the authorities do not help, Hoon-ah decides to get help from the villagers. He meets the village chief, who recognizes him as his old classmate. He meets the other villagers also, and after reminiscing about their childhood, he discusses his problems with them.

When the villagers do not side with him in protesting against the farm, he promises to build the biggest trot concert hall in the place of the pig farm and offer them and their children employment opportunities.

The villagers agree to support him in getting rid of the pig farm but come to their senses later on. They do not show up to protest with him because Young-soon is their friend, and Hoon-ah fails to get rid of the farm yet again.
