Anne Masu Kowtok’s case in True Detective: Night Country explained

In True Detective: Night Country, Anne Masu Kowtok’s case from years ago has a possible connection with the Tsalal men’s case.

While investigating the disappearance of scientists working at Tsalal Arctic Research Station, the cops come across a tongue on the scene.

Trooper Navarro quickly pays a visit to Chief of Police Elizabeth Danvers, who is handling the case.

Navarro thinks the tongue is related to Anne Masu Kowtok’s case from six years ago.

Details of Anne Masu Kowtok’s case

Anne Masu Kowtok was found dead on the edge of the villages of Ennis six years ago. Navarro was the first on the scene.

Anne, also known as Annie K, was stabbed 32 times with a sharp, unidentified object. She had star-shaped wounds on her body, and the murder weapon was never found.

Later in the show, Navarro mentions that Annie was disgustingly cut. Forensics suggested that someone kicked her after dumping her body.

Whoever killed her hated her so much that they attacked her body even after she died.

Annie’s tongue was also missing and was never recovered. The tongue part was kept from the public.

Annie was a midwife, activist, and protestor, and she had a lot of haters. However, Danvers thinks nobody deserves a death like that.

A new connection

While studying Annie’s file again, along with the Tsalal Arctic Research Station case, Danvers makes an observation that may connect the two cases.

In a picture, one of the scientists from Tsalal Arctic Research Station is wearing the same coat as Annie. The connection could be a new lead in the cold case after a long time, or it could just be a mere coincidence.
