Ananya Shroff: Maamla Legal Hai character explained

Despite coming from a family of reputed lawyers, Ananya Shroff chooses to struggle to establish her own practice. In Maamla Legal Hai, Naila Grewal plays Ananya.

Ananya, a third-generation lawyer, aims to get a desk at Patparganj District Court to establish her own practice.

After graduating from Harvard, instead of relying on her family’s influence, she decides to work hard to make a name for herself.

Ananya’s motivation for pursuing a career in law was not financial gain; she became a lawyer to help people, which is why she aspires to be a legal aid.

Making a place for herself

A straight-laced lawyer, Ananya initially does not get along with other lawyers, such as Sujata, who refers cases to others for a commission.

As a result, Ananya struggles to get a desk in the foyer, but Ananya is not the one to give up. She decides to stand up for herself.

She eventually gets a desk, and although she comes from a very different background compared to others, she manages to befriend Sujata and Vishwas.

Ananya finds her place at Patparganj District Court, but she still has a hard time getting cases, so she ends up providing free services to the clients she gets.

The journey to her first case

Ananya’s experience at Patparganj District Court teaches her how complex people and their problems can be.

Her first encounter with Tyagi leaves her with the impression that he is a selfish man, but when he helps her client, she realizes that he is not as bad as she initially thought.

She then helps Tyagi win the elections along with Sujata and Vishwas. With time, Ananya grows and learns to adapt and use the law to benefit her clients.

However, she does not compromise her principles. When she is assigned to PP’s team for a landmark case, Ananya chooses to step away rather than fabricate evidence.

Ananya refuses to fabricate evidence

Ananya is made to realize that lawyers and the police sometimes fabricate evidence to prevent criminals from getting away due to insufficient evidence.

The struggle to uphold what she believes is right becomes challenging when the law and justice stand on opposite sides.

Her determination to do the right thing impresses PP. While he no longer feels sympathy for his clients, Ananya still cares about hers.

Due to that, he gives Ananya one of his old cases. He never got his client, Kan-Mailiya, compensation for losing his ancestral home in riots 20 years ago.

He believes that Ananya can help Kan-Mailiya, as this is a case in which justice and law are on the same side, and he is not wrong.

This becomes Ananya’s first case. She works hard and succeeds in getting Kan-Mailiya’s long-awaited compensation.
