Am I Ok? follows Jane and Lucy, best friends who reach a tough point in their friendship after Jane gets a life-changing promotion. The film is streaming on Max.

Plot summary:
Lucy and Jane are best friends in their 30s who spend much of their time with each other. While Jane seems to have her life more put together, Lucy seems to be struggling.
She is socially awkward and very timid when it comes to making choices and Jane pushes her along her the way.
Lucy has recently been hanging out with a guy named Ben and Jane tells her to sleep with him but she considers Ben just a friend.
He comes over to install some shelves and later makes a move on her but she falls backward to avoid him and ends the night on a sour note as he leaves.
She meets Jane and her boyfriend Danny to discuss her epic failure and Jane tells her that she just needs to take some risks in life.
Jane works for an advertising firm and has a strong relationship while Lucy works as a receptionist at a massage parlor even though she has a passion for painting.
She hasn’t had a relationship in a long time and doesn’t even know what kind of person she likes.
Jane gets an offer to move to London and start an office there and she takes the promotion since she’s originally from there and would like to try something new.
When she tells Lucy, her best friend puts on a brave face but is disappointed that Jane is moving halfway across the world from her.
They get incredibly drunk that night and Lucy admits that she might be gay which surprises Jane.
Jane has 6 months before she moves and she makes it her mission to find Lucy a girlfriend and explore her sexuality before then.
Lucy has a fondness for a masseuse named Brittany at work since Britney has been very flirty and touchy with her.
Jane isn’t so sure about “Brit-Brit” and wants Lucy to try out other avenues. She takes Lucy to a lesbian bar but Lucy feels overwhelmed and leaves while Jane is busy dancing.
She starts having Brittany over more often and they talk about trying new things together.
Lucy also has to deal with Jane’s annoying colleague Kate from time to time and aims digs at Kate often.
Kate is also moving to London and Lucy isn’t thrilled to hear that. Jane gets fed up with Lucy’s negativity and indecisiveness and they get into an argument.
With no one else to talk to, Lucy invites Brittany over to hang out.
Ending explained:
Trying new things
Lucy ends up sleeping with Brittany but feels like something is off the next day. Brittany leaves early and when they are at work she brushes off what they did.
She says that it was fun trying it out and maybe they should do it again but it was just casual.
Lucy is disappointed with that response but she isn’t able to talk to Jane about it because they have been avoiding each other since the argument.
Finding herself
Lucy sees Brittany meeting with her ex-boyfriend and work and Brittany tells her that she is moving states to be with him again.
This hits her hard and she decides to finally make a change in her life. She quits the parlor and starts painting again. Lucy meets Ben and tells him that she is most likey gay.
She also makes a profile on a dating app and starts going on dates with other women. Meanwhile, Jane’s birthday is coming up and she is stressing about Lucy.
She is worried that Lucy won’t call and remarks that they have never spent a birthday apart since they got to know each other.
Lucy does leave a message, but that night at dinner, Danny tells Jane that he doesn’t want to move to London since he likes his life in the US.
Having each other’s backs
With Danny gone and her argument with Lucy not resolving, Jane decides to leave for London earlier.
On her birthday, Kate gifts her. weekend at a hammock retreat where they are supposed to relax but Jane is not looking forward to it.
She finally gives in and reaches out to Lucy. They meet up and update each other on what has been happening.
Jane is so happy for Lucy and is nervous about moving soon. Lucy volunteers to drop her off at the airport.
On that day, Lucy tells Jane that she’s going to London with Jane and staying for at least two weeks to help her settle since that is what best friends do.
After a tough period away, they got back to each other and promised to stand by each other like always.
