In Blood Coast, Ali Saïdi is the drug lord who runs Marseille’s market. Samir Boitard plays Ali.
Ali Saïdi is a multimillionaire who grew up in Marseille and now lives in Dubai. He runs the drug market in Marseille. His nephews, Kamel and Foudil, take care of his business in his absence.
Ali has a monopoly in Marseille’s drug business and controls most of the city’s dealings. He has killed any competition left. Since he has the monopoly, crime in Marseille has gone down, which is why Lyès and his team have never arrested him. Apart from that, Ali and Lyès are childhood friends who have grown up together.
Lyès and his team are investigating two new players in Marseille’s market who are after Ali’s business and his family. Franck Murillo and Tarek Hamadi, the Indian, are the ones after Ali.
They sell drugs in Saïdi’s territories and take out Kamel, forcing Ali to come to Marseille. They don’t stop there. They also kill Foudil. Ali warns Lyès to take care of this or he will do it his way.
The reason Ali is being targeted
Once Lyès’ team finds out that Murillo and the Indian are after Ali, they understand that the Indian wants Ali’s business but don’t know what Murillo has to do with Ali.
Lyès suspects that it may have something to do with Murillo’s son’s death. Lyès and Alice visit the location where Murillo’s son died. A bar owner there tells them that Ali was present here the day Murillo’s son died.
Someone came in a van to assassinate Ali. In a gunfight, Murillo’s son got shot and died. Ali had no hand in the death of Murillo’s son. Lyès’ team assesses the weapon used to kill Murillo’s son and learns that the Indian was behind the assassination attempt.
The Indian is manipulating Murillo into doing his bidding so that he can steal Ali’s business.
The fate of Ali at the end of season 1
While Lyès’ team looks for Murillo and the Indian, Ali is put under arrest because he is part of a business that involves kidnapping, assault, and unlawful confinement of minors.
Even Miranda finds another reason to keep Ali behind bars when Arno submits Lyès’ confession about his and Ali’s deal. However, the DA decides to protect Ali and carry out an investigation that doesn’t involve Miranda.
The DA explains that they need Ali to be free for the well-being of Marseille. Hence, Ali is seemingly let go.
