Abby Winbury: The Perfect Couple character explained

Dakota Fanning plays the character of Abby Winbury, Thomas Winbury’s pregnant wife in The Perfect Couple.

Abby Winbury and Thomas do not have the perfect marriage as Thomas claims she strictly controls him.

She is eager to spill the tea on the rest of her family with the police and isn’t afraid to pass judgment on other’s character.

Abby is also in the marriage for the money and cannot get enough of it. She pressures Thomas to buy her a new apartment, forcing him to ask his father for a loan.

She also shows a taste for the finer things in life, applying a lotion on her belly that was illegally sourced, and mentioning a hair appointment at a place with a months-long waiting list.

Abby advises Amelia to stay in the background if she wants to adjust to the Winburys’, but that relative anonymity almost helps her commit a murder.

Abby Winbury mainly cared about her husband’s family wealth

The suspicions pile on

The morning that Merritt’s body is found, Abby spots a glass in the sink and decides to wash it just as Detective Henry walks in.

She notices that Abby is a little nervous washing the glass but makes nothing of it until later on.

Abby admits to signing an NDA when she first started dating Thomas and mentions the ‘Mae Pratt incident’.

That opens up a new can of worms within the family, but Abby isn’t too perturbed by it. She is also aware of her husband’s affair with Isabelle, although it isn’t clear when she found out.

When the family finds out that Amelia and Shooter kissed, Abby supports her choice because Shooter is extremely wealthy.

Another hole in her story was when she claimed that Thomas came to bed with her on the night of the murder, but that was proven false.

With the evidence and the timeline lining up after the police learn about the conditions of the trust, Abby is arrested as the murderer.

She didn’t want to wait for her husband’s inheritance to kick in so she killed Merritt by drugging her and drowning her in the water.
