The shooting for Kajol’s digital short film Devi has officially wrapped up, and the makers are teasing viewers with a first look.
The film packs an impressive all-woman cast inclusive of some of the biggest names in the industry transcending generations, including Kajol, Shruti Haasan, Neha Dhupia, Neena Kulkarni, Mukta Barve, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Yashaswini Dayama, Sandhya Mhatre and Rama Joshi.

The poster featuring the all-female ensemble cast, oozes power and a sense of solidarity among women that the short film aims to portray and convey. Their faces are clad in different expressions, signifying a strong premise to each of their stories.
In today’s times when gender discrimination, abuse, and violence is being spoken about vociferously, films like Devi are far more relevant and I am glad to have got the opportunity to participate.

The nine women hail from different backgrounds and various social strata but find common ground when united under one roof. As diverse as they are, their similar life experiences bring them together. They have all been subject to some form of violence and brutality against a woman, devoid of a class or caste basis.
We often talk about sisterhood and how women need to stand with each other. Devi highlights that aspect in such a lovely way, with such a powerful message. It’s disturbingly poignant and that’s why I knew I had to be part of it, and I couldn’t have found a more perfect film to make my debut on the digital platform.

Evidently, the film touches upon the societal oppressions faced by women in India.
Produced by Electric Apples Entertainment, Devi is directed by Priyanka Banerjee.
Devi also marks Shruti Haasan’s digital debut and Kajol’s first time working in a short film.
There’s no mention of the platform that the film is due to premiere on, as of yet.
