Netflix India announces slate of 4 new films for 2020 with Bollywood directors

Netflix India has announced a new slate of four films with eminent Bollywood directors Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Karan Johar.

Calling it the platform’s “20/20 vision”, the slate was shared on Twitter:

Dibakar Banerjee’s Freedom:

The film will star big names from Bollywood, including Naseeruddin Shah, Huma Qureshi, Manisha Koirala, Kalki Koechlin, Zoya Hussain, Divya Dutta, Neeraj Kabi and Shashank Arora.

It traces the history of a family over three stories 25 years into the future, interwoven with the personal and ideological histories of the nation.

Anurag Kashyap’s Choked:

Starring Saiyami Kher and Roshan Mathew as the lead, Choked is the tale of a bank cashier (played by Kher’, whose life is transformed one fine day when she finds a a huge some of money inside her own house.

Vikramaditya Motwane’s AK vs AK:

After acting as showrunner for one of Netflix India’s biggest hits ‘Sacred Games’, Motwane turns film director for the platform, while Kashyap turns actor for this one.

Originally starring Kashyap and Shahid Kapoor with the film titled ‘AK vs SK’, Shahid was later replaced by Anil Kapoor.

The film is a thriller based in the Bollywood world where Kashyap and Kapoor play themselves. It narrates the story of a film director who kidnaps the daughter of a popular movie star.

Karan Johar’s The Other (working title):

Produced by Dharma’s digital arm Dharmatic, The Other, along the lines of Netflix’s Lust Stories and Ghost Stories, is an anthology film with four stories each helmed by different directors.

Talking about the film, Johar stated, “The Other is one such film that delves into the various complexities of human relationships. Each director will bring their unique vision to the table, amalgamating in a piece that many viewers across the world will definitely resonate with.”

The cast includes the likes of Shefali Shah, Nushrat Bharucha, Manav Kaul, Jaideep Ahlawat and Fatima Sana Sheikh.
