Operation Parindey: ZEE5’s original action film based on jailbreak

India’s largest producer of original digital content, Zee5, has revealed the full trailer for its upcoming original action thriller titled Operation Parindey. Based on true events, it follows the story of a jailbreak from one of the most secure prisons of the country.

According to the official description, “The film is based on one of the most controversial jailbreaks in the history of India which put our nation under threat”.

The 1 minute and 30 seconds long trailer sets the tone for what is to be expected from the film. It’s pacy and showcases a lot of action and suspense. Amit Sadh leads the line as the officer responsible for recapturing the criminals.

Rahul Dev’s character seems to be the main antagonist of the film and is probably the mastermind behind the jailbreak and its aftermath. The snippets from the video point to a national level threat and a race against time to prevent it from happening.

Operation Parindey has been directed by Sanjay Gadhvi, who helmed the first two instalments of Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom franchise. This is his debut in the digital space.

Although the exact true incident from which the story is inspired is not mentioned, it shows a striking similarity to the high profile jailbreak from a maximum-security prison in Nabha, Punjab in 2016.

The incident sent a shock-wave across the state of Punjab and the entire country as 6 criminals (2 KLF terrorists and 4 gangsters) escaped the prison with the help of their associates. They apparently dressed up as fake policemen and executed the entire plan. There was a lot of gunfire and bloodshed involved.

The film also stars Ameet Gaurr, Kunal Kumar, Aakash Dhaiya, Rucha Inamdar and premieres on 28 February 2020.
