Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee’s Netflix India film ‘Ghost Stories’ will hit the streaming platform on January 1, 2020.

Ghost Stories is a follow-up to Lust Stories (2018), which saw each director creating one part of the film with four separate short narratives, not connected in any way. It dealt with different relationship dilemmas.

Before Lust Stories, the four collaborated for Bombay Talkies (2013), a theatrical film which followed the same four-story format as Ghost Stories and Lust Stories.

Earlier, all the filmmakers expressed their excitement at venturing into a space none of them are familiar with.

Johar admitted that he had always stayed away from the horror genre, which made directing this film that much more challenging as well as exciting.

Taking the challenge head on, Akhtar revealed her desire to experiment by “bending genres and inverting tropes” in Ghost Stories.

Kashyap stated that he was looking forward to attempting something different, also revealing he had “never prepared so much for anything”.

Simarly, Banerjee also relished the challenge. He also expressed the importance of having a streaming platform like Netflix as a partner in telling stories as envisioned and without interference.
