“Friends” reboot: Unscripted special in the works for HBO Max

The leading cast of iconic sitcom Friends and HBO Max are in talks for an “unscripted reunion special”.

Along with David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry, the creators of the show (David Crane and Marta Kauffman) would also be part of the same deal.

The details of the agreement still need to be confirmed.

However, Aniston earlier confirmed on Ellen DeGeneres’ show that the cast and crew are “working on something”.

She also made her comeback to television through Apple TV+’s The Morning Show alongside Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell.

If the details of the agreement are ironed out, the deal will then move on to adjusting dates and schedules of all cast members. This means there is a chance that the project might fall out.

FRIENDS was a show shot in by Warner Bros. TV studios, which is why the deal has been made by the WB backed streaming service – HBO Max. Earlier this year, WarnerMedia paid a whopping $85 million per year for the next five years to obtain streaming rights.

The show has been streaming on Netflix. The streaming giant paid $80-$100 million to keep the series on their platform for 2019.

However, both HBO and WBTV have refused to make comments on the upcoming reunion.

The launch date for HBO Max has not been confirmed yet.
