The footage sees Cavil’s Geralt of Rivia on various quests as he looks for contracts to slay monsters and battles armies. The production value of the series looks really high and the special effects are very convincing.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich mentioned that she’s excited for die-hard fans to watch the show. But, she also understands the inevitable comparison of The Witcher to other fantasy series like Game of Thrones.

“I don’t think we need to be the answer to anything, I think we can be our own thing,” said Hissrich during a press roundtable at Comic-Con. However, she did acknowledge the role Game of Thrones played in creating popularity for the fantasy genre.

“I’m a huge fan of Game of Thrones. I hope we can be as successful,” she added. She also revealed that Henry Cavill as one of the biggest fans of The Witcher, having read the books and played all the games.

Cavill was a “great resource” according to her. He was involved in his character’s design from the beginning. He also suggested dialogue from the books to be used.

The Witcher still has no confirmed date of release. It has however been revealed that it will start streaming exclusively on Netflix in the fourth quarter of 2019. Check out the trailer below:
