Netflix’s ready for 5 new Indian series produced by SRK, Anushka Sharma and more

After Amazon Prime’s big announcement of new and returning shows yesterday, Netflix has made its own move with a slate of five new Indian Netflix Original series.

‘Betaal’, a new horror series to be produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, has already been making rounds in the news. It will be written and directed by Patrick Graham.

The Bollywood actor’s production house is already working with Netflix for the thriller Bard of Blood and upcoming film Class of 83.

Khan is excited for his collaborations with the streaming giant. He earlier admitted: “Netflix has shown that Indian stories have a global audience and we would love to use this platform and its reach to tell more stories.”

‘Mai’ is the story of a wife and mother who finds herself amidst violence and politics after a personal tragedy.

It is produced by Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate productions and written by Atul Mongia, Tamal Sen and Amita Vyas.

Next up is ‘Bombay Begums’, which will revolve around the different journeys of five women in contemporary India. It is produced by Chernin entertainment and EndemolShine India.

The series will be written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, who was also involved in the critically-acclaimed ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ and the hugely successful ‘Made in Heaven’.

A stand-up comedian’s struggle of balancing his profession with a day job and a demanding family will form the narrative of ‘Messy’.

It will be produced by The District and Mutant Films, and written by Neel Shah and Ravi Patel, who also stars in series.

To round off the list, there’s ‘Masaba Masaba’. It is based on the life experiences of Masaba Gupta and her mother Neena Gupta.

The two will play themselves in the series. ‘Masaba Masaba’ is produced by Vineyard Films and directed by Sonam Nair.
