Kota Factory episode 4: Romance all the way

Rating: 9/10

TVF’s Kota Factory returns with this week’s episode: Shut Down. The name may give off a negative vibe, but it is the total opposite. For those who thought that the series was starting to get too serious after last week’s “Inorganic” rant, this episode is a total flip of the coin.

To everyone’s surprise, Physics teacher supreme, Jeetu Bhaiya (Jitendra Kumar) gives his class just a few questions for homework and advises them to relax for the next four days. As they prepare for their schools’ practical examinations and take a breather, the door for the room of fun opens with a bang.

Uday (Alam Khan), along with his girlfriend Shivangi (Ahsaas Channa), invite Vaibhav (Mayur More) and Meena (Ranjan Raj) for scanning as much of Kota as they can in their days off. Meena agrees because he listens to his teachers but Vaibhav does not.

Studying is indeed among the reasons due to which Vaibhav refuses to roam around Kota. But, studying with Shivangi’s friend Vartika (Revathi Pillai) is a bigger motivating factor. This episode is all about romance and teenage hormones.

We get to see a side of Vaibhav and even Meena that wasn’t shown before. It is full of cringy fumbles, loud speaking, and awkward situations in front of girls they have feelings for. Meena has a unique way of romantic expression but Vaibhav is like every teenage boy with a new crush.

He helps Vartika revise everything she wants to, looks at her more than the books, gets offended when someone calls him her brother and even fills up important forms at the last minute because he forgets a lot about other things.

Meanwhile, Uday, Shivangi, Meena and Meenal (Urvi Singh) make the most of their holidays as they go sightseeing, sneak into bars and enjoy life.

There is love everywhere and it is a welcome turnaround from the previous episodes. It is so full of colour that the black & white pallet should bother the audience and yet, does not. The episode is so much fun that you would not even notice the monochrome on screen.

Shut Down is sure to strike a chord with every teenager who has gone through this phase of craziness.
